CHURCH COVENANT

INTRO

Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God to receive Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior; and having been baptized on the profession of our faith in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, we do now, in the presence of God and this assembly most solemnly and joyfully renew this covenant with one another. (John 1:11-12; Matt. 28:19-20).

We promise, therefore, by God’s help, to walk together in Christian love (John 13:34-35);

We will work and pray for the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace (Eph. 4:1-3);

We will seek God’s help to walk carefully and watchfully in the world, denying ungodliness and every worldly lust (Eph. 5:15-21; 1 Pet. 2:11-12; 1 John 2:15-17);

We will exercise a Christian care and watchfulness over each other, and faithfully encourage, exhort, warn, rebuke, and admonish one another as the case shall require (2 Tim. 2:15; 1 Cor. 5:1-2; Heb. 3:12-14; Gal. 6:1; James 5:19-20);

We will rejoice at each other’s happiness, and we will seek with tenderness and sympathy to bear each other’s burdens and sorrows (Gal. 6:2; James 2:14-17);

We will cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling and Christian courtesy in speech; we will be slow to take offense, but always ready to forgive one other and reconcile immediately in obedience to Christ (Eph. 4:25-32; Phil. 4:2-3);

We will earnestly seek to bring up those who are under our care in the nurture and admonition of the Lord (Titus 2:1-6; Deut. 6:4-7; Eph. 6:1-4);

We will love our neighbors and be a gospel witness to those around us, seeking by God’s help to win souls to Christ (Acts 1:8; Matt. 4:19; 5:12-16);

We will strive for a faithful gospel-ministry among us, sustaining the church’s worship, ordinances, discipline, and doctrines; we will contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the gospel to all nations (Phil. 1:27; 1 Cor. 15:58; 2 Cor. 9:7; 1 Cor. 16:2);

We will not forsake gathering together with one another regularly, and we will remember to pray both for ourselves and for others (Heb. 10:24-25; 1 Cor. 11:23-26; James 5:16);

Likewise, we will when we move from this church, unite with some other church as soon as possible where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God’s Word;

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us all. Amen. (2. Cor. 13:14).
